Actually saw this happen at a pharmacy, poor old guy talking loudly into the phone (land line) to his doctors office but couldn’t hear what the person at the other end was saying.
The worst problem for me is people continuing to wear masks in public, which prevents me from doing the indirect lip reading I need in order to understand conversations. This is in spite of the fact that I am fully vaccinated and boosted, with documentation of that always in my pocket. Furthermore, the CDC just abolished mask wearing requirements in medical offices. Still some mean doctors out there.
Since most calls I make are to people’s cell phones, I have to be careful to speak in a soft voice since most people have their volume up high. Just listen to received calls by others in public, especially restaurants.
Heard recently, a guy (of course) Yelling on Facetime with the speaker on full! “What?…. I should get the big can of tuna!?” Louder – “With the oil!?” “What coupon!?”

Maybe the person on the other end is his audiologist saying his new hearing aids are in.

My Dad was born in the 19th century and always shouted on the phone because phones were just not that good when he was growing up.

If you answer the phone without knowing who it is, you’re a Plugger.
