At least Vampires are relatively self-sufficient and in some ways contribute to the Economy. On the other hand, consider the Struldbruggs from Book Three of Gulliver’s Travels. Potentially they live for hundreds of years, becoming more and more feeble and useless. In political terms they are a drag on a nation’s welfare system. At least they have the decency to survive on a minimal public pittance in segregated enclaves. (—
