Yup, a BIG NO says it all!

It’s not the words that are used but the way they are said that conveys the true meaning.

“This is such a funny comic strip!”

And yet it’s said that there are two job openings for every person looking for work. He may want to try for a change of scenery.

I picture the word balloon over the boss’s head witht a P. T. Bridgeport font and flourish.

did the windows shatter or did his tone just melt everything in the room?

the “no” followed by a contemptuous snort, i remember that one well…

Brutus seems to have “read the room” and decided that rather than getting a COLA, the boss might just decide to fire him and save the salary.

Sort of like Ground Hog Day, when “Cost of Living Increase” shows up in the funny papers expect Jerome Powell to continue beating us up for another 6 months.

I would think you might have a better chance asking for a raise if you can just hold off for another 5 weeks. It will be the holiday season then and bosses are usually in better, giving Christmas spirits. Or at least they will feel like Scrooges saying NO!

The exact wording of my every request for a raise. But the refusal was always with a smile. In person, no emojis.

Let your ‘Yes’ be yes and let your ‘No’ be no.

Yes, I can see bossman saying something like, “What do you think I am, Social Security?” You know, thanks to the COLA’s I make more in retirement than I did working. How old is Brutus, anyway?

Poor ole’ Brutus Thornapple, can’t get a raise and can’t afford to die. He will be stuck were he is forever.

Look at it this way, if he gave you a raise he’d have to fire you for being over budget.

BTW, it’s good thing you didn’t ask him to pay you what you’re worth.

I imagine the expression on Veeblefester face when he said no was equally disconcerting.

It’s better to get a raise on merit than on cost of living. He would still get a “no,” though.

You’ve got to pick your battles and their time. Time to be a little patient…..
