When I was young, I could cover 300+ miles before needing to pit stop adn my kids and wife complained about it. Now it’s about 120 miles or two hours. When I visit my kids and we go somewhere to sight see, they still complain about it.
We were on a ride with a guy that had to stop at every rest stop or roadside bush. He was severely abused after his wife found out how she got her STD.
Even though McDonalds food isn’t very good, there are a lot of them. The restroom is always inside the door on the right side of the building. Most of them aren’t even visible from the counter.
Depends on whether or not one has had a lot of liquid (non-alcoholic) to drink and how far apart the toilets are. It is less important to stop in advance of need if they toilet opportunities are close together, more so if they far apart – or it is late night so they limited.
On the other hand – our RV is a Chevy van and we can always pull over somewhere if the toilet in it is needed. We even use it when we go on day trips.

I would hate to notice a nearby rest area already occupied by other bathroom patrons or the rest area is closed for the night.

When traveling, never pass up a convenient restroom.

When we travel, I go off my water pills 2 days before; that stretches out the rest breaks to every 2 hours.
