‘Tis the season for family to get together for the holidays. So put on your best show and dress up in silly Christmas sweaters! It is expected by your older grandparents who have nostalgic memories of their own childhood but know that the years speed up faster every passing year until they won’t be around anymore!
It’s nice to look your best for others. It maybe a pain in the neck, (especially neck ties), but it shows some respect to others. I really dislike the “grunge” look. I remember when people put on good clothes, (not their Sunday best, but nice ones), to go to the grocery store.
I know people who truly enjoy dressing up, even for seemingly routine occasions. I prefer casual and comfortable. Guess what: The sun continues to rise for all of us.
I’ve known a few folks who really like dressing up. Particularly dressing “for the occasion”. I appreciate their point of view, and applaud their efforts, but I rarely want to emulate their example. I’m not a slob, I’m comfortable.
I learned years ago, always wear something good when flying. If you are flying for business and the airline loses your luggage, you will want something decent and respectable to wear to the meeting.
About dressing for Walmart. The internet provides us with pix of Walmart shoppers, but they are rarely folks who dressed up, or even dressed in regular clothes. Descriptive terms such as “scandalous” and “gak” and “OMG” come to mind. I can’t bear to look for any specific sites to recommend—google Walmart shopper pictures if you dare.

Does it kill anyone to dress up once in a while?

Good thing we don’t have to do that anymore

People do not dress up for airports anymore, whether traveling or picking up.

If 5 people ( one in a car seat) pick up 4 adults that are carrying luggage and gifts. They would need a bus. John needs to go himself.

I gave up on “good” clothes when I retired 11 years ago.

Why on earth, even 30 years ago, would anyone FLY in “good” clothes? Even then, air travel was uncomfortable; now, it’s miserable.

Last time I got dressed up was when MIL and FIL got married 5 years ago. Now, I dress nicely, but not up if I have to go somehere.

Great to see Grandparents, especially during the Christmas holidays. They won’t be around forever.

They remember a time when Ike was in the White House, Elly was in the kitchen and Lawrence was in the closet.

Elly understands that living in the real world means we are judged by our appearance.

In panel 3, I assumed that the shadowy figure in the background is Phil, but why is Carol Enjo there instead of Georgia?
Elizabeth disobeyed her mother. Also in panel 3, she’s still wearing the same green shirt she was told to change out of.

Back in the days when you could actually take the whole family to greet someone at the airport. It hasn’t been like that since September 11, 2001

I always tried to look presentable for visitors, after the first visit you became family, so you got what you got the next time.
