Happy Small Business Saturday! I went to a local farmers market and stopped at an independent bookstore (Solid State Books on H St NE) and got a book for myself. Next week, I need to get cards and wrapping paper, and a birthday card for a nephew in NY. So, I will be going to a local card store next week as well. I realize to insist on buying local 24/7 is too utopian in much of the country, but I am a believer in buying local when I can.
I would love to do all my shopping locally but it is just not possible. We have no jewelry store, no shoe store, and no store selling baby furniture. Fortunately we do have a book store. We do have a Walmart (hence the lack of locally owned stores) but I do not like shopping there. I did not get to the Village Noel yesterday but we plan to go this evening right after the Christmas parade.
I hope everyone had a great Saturday and managed to avoid shopping in a crowd.
When I moved into the small village where I live, there were several nice stores. They all got replaced by restaurants and real estate offices. So much for shop local.

The global companies just want to “give you the business”.

Cathy’s mom supported local shops long before it became fashionable.

A thoughtful gesture by Cathy’s mom here, though I sense she might be stretching herself a bit thin …
HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.
