Yes but how many people actually go through the hoops to get the manufacturer’s rebate? I recall figuring out that the cost of the envelope, postage and my time came to way more than the ‘rebate’ – especially considering it often took months before the money actually arrived.
Wow! Just realized I have not been here since the 10th. Sure missed a lot but it was fun lighting “Scrooge” in the theatre in my home town. It was amazing watching actors do well covering more than their usual role when other’s could not come in due to illness. Our final presentation on Sunday was down 5 actors – he Cratchit family was shrunk by 3 children but the others knew all the lines for the ones missing so all went well. Now it is time to finish my gift wrapping – and catch up on work I guess.
I did the calculations. If the toaster oven cost $18.33, this could work out. Why the manufacturer would give an 81.8% rebate, I don’t know. Especially since there is probably a 50% retail markup.
The 70% discount means this is probably a loss for the store, thus a “loss leader”, meaning the store intends to get things out of it. For the second 10%, it is about getting someone to sign up for a store charge card. The first 10%, about getting people in the store in the first place. There ought to be more displayed products, with lesser discounts.
On the other hand, Amazon currently has a $29.99 toaster oven, and this appears to be non-electronic. This comic was from 2001, so a $18.33 toaster oven might be reasonable.

Now they want us to download their app. I don’t want all these apps and they’re just mining my data, so I don’t do it.

Hasbro has laid off 20% of its workforce, most of that just before Christmas.

If only …
If stores paid me for the stuff I’ve bought over the years, imagine how rich I’d be. Mind—blown. Ha.
