At this point, I’m happy if I thank a gift giver in any way. I grew up doing handwritten (paper) notes, but I will now thank people via text or other electronic written way. If I regularly call that person, I’ll call them. The only thank yous that I now do on paper is if I think it is appropriate, like for a teacher or someone who would welcome mail.

“Its too nice for just a note”???? Does that mean not nice gifts – or an ugly flower in this case – get a thank you call but anything better than that requires written thanks? By this measure if you get a call to thank you for a gift that means the received did not like it. Hmmm. I think we need better guidelines. Cathy’s mom can sure complicate a simple thank you.
