What is the reason for dogs to be so keen on catching squirrels? I can understand them catching mice, rabbits, even birds. But squirrels are nothing to bite and mostly out of reach anyway.
Not for one of my Canaan female dogs. She has bitten a few squirrels tails by running up the tree to about six feet high then doing a flip back onto the ground. She use to get stuck in the tree, but since I cut the low limb she started doing the flips. When the pack is outside they’ll lay around the base of the trees. Some of my daily entertainment is watching the squirrels try to get past the pack. Yip yip yip yip yip

My dog wouldn’t know what to do with one if he caught it. You should’ve seen how confused he was when he once caught a possum!
