I worked in the corporate office of the Sharper Image for 15 years. There was a pair of shoes in a display frame near the founder’s office labeled “The Cruel Shoes.” I never learned if it was the original or a reproduction they sold before! I got there.
I knew an Irish Wolfhound who liked to back up to the couch and sit down on it, the same way people do. (Except that most people aren’t comfortable with their front paws on the floor.)
My friend had a Doberman like this. I love dogs, but that breed is definitely not the brightest. You practically had to wear a cup if you wanted to sit on the couch at his place.

We had that extra large lap dog. Max was 107 lbs. Half black lab, half Bernese. What a sweetie. RIP dear friend.

+1 for Cruel Shoes. That was a great bit on Steve’s album. Which I still have. His comedy. Hearing it for the first time. I’ve never laughed so hard.

From ‘Move" with Elliot Gould, as he’s walking his St. Bernard in Central Park:
“That’s a nice horse you got. Why dontcha get a dog like everybody else” !!
