What to say? I had to report a CC stolen today to stop ooma from charging me. They don’t take cancellation calls (2 45 minute unanswered calls) It doesn’t work where I live but they didn’t care
I never do on-line banking, for fear that someone might hack into my bank account; but it happened anyway. The hacker started with a couple $3,000 withdrawals, and my bank didn’t notice until they tried a $13,000 withdrawal. The bank made good on the stolen money; but we wasted days in their office and changing our bank and credit cards, etc. They couldn’t, or wouldn’t, tell us how it happened; and instead of an apology, we got a call from their fraud department, warning us that if it happened again they may hold us responsible.
I had my identity stolen through unemployment insurance. I called unemployment to tell them that 2 years ago someone put in for this and it was not me. The representative agreed that there was a claim in that time and I laughed so hard, it took me a minute to control myself. The rep said “sir, I never had anyone have that reaction to identity theft”. I asked him to look at the payout. The rep started laughing as well. He verified the "thief’ made pennies on the dollar and the rest went to NYS CHILD SUPPORT which I had THREE open cases at the time!
Wow! This is so Kafka-esque! They stole his identity so is Brutus thinking that transferred his Born Loser-ness too? I’m thinking no such luck. A rose by any other name…And a Born Loser by any other name is still our beloved Brutus.
Identity theft is a real issue, the thieves are not often caught and the victimization lasts for years. Please be take care to safeguard yourself and your family’s identity.
I am kind of rushing through today, but I didn’t really get who he was talking to on the phone. I hope it’s not someone who will now ask him his birthdate, address, social security number, correct spelling of his name, etc. He could be talking to someone trying to steal his identify. He should get the name of the company and look them up and call them back.
Poor ole’ Brutus Thornapple, the only guy I know who could have his identity stolen and have it given back three days later because it was not only useless, but embarrassing to the thieves.
after we moved i placed a couple orders with rakuten (not sure if there’s an equivalent in other countries for this online aggregator) for things we needed at the new place, but apparently had forgotten to update my credit card address info. hard to say, because rakuten kept cancelling the order, but wouldn’t explain why. after that frustrating experience, we don’t use rakuten anymore…
i understand the need to be sure about customer identities, but this was a case of overkill and undersmart…
Silver lining, Brutus…if you do have to change your name, that might give you an opportunity to make a fresh career start out from under the Chief since he won’t recognize anyone with the new identity.

From Brutus to Cassius is a short way, even historically.

I am triggered. I’ve had some ID theft. Horrible, awful feeling. Maybe I’ll laugh at it sometime, if I live long enough.

Come tax time, you should be able to declare them all as dependants.

Change your name and move. That will throw Mother Gargle off your track.

It’d be very interesting to see what Brutus’ new name would be. That could be a great arc for this toon.

Someone stole his identity?? I’d say the punishment fits the crime. The poor criminal must already be suffering.

Look on the bright side Brutus, if someone was able to open three credit cards in your name, you must have pretty good credit.

Freeze your credit and (almost) never worry about it again. That’s also free in many states.
