    I worked for a guy who was an IBM salesman back in the ‘60s. The mainframes had an emergency stop switch which has publicised (even to the sales staff) as an in-case-of-fire switch which will blow every circuit in the multi-million dollar machine out and require replacement. He was at one client’s facility and they decided to go to lunch. The client pulled the emergency shutoff and the salesman almost had a heart attack. It turns out he always shut the machine that way. It’s just not the proscribed method and could cause data loss so IBM said “don’t” to avoid service calls.

    At a previous workplace, they discovered the hard way why one shouldn’t have the Big Red Switch on the wall OUTSIDE the locked door to the server-room.
