An old joke:

The wife wants to know if it’s raining outside, so the husband says, “Call the dog in and see if he’s wet.”

Reminds me of the weather forecasting rope which dangled from a signboard in Clinton Falls, IN. The forecasts were similar — except for the last one on the list: “The rope’s gone = Somebody stole the rope.”
