One time I was on a business trip to San Francisco. A bunch of us went to a Chinese restaurant. One guy ordered a spicy shrimp dish. The waiter asked him how hot he wanted it to be. His reply “as hot as you can make it”. With a perfectly dead pan face the waiter asked “have you eaten here before?”

It’s called “family” as opposed to western seasoning. Never request that in an authentic Indian restaurant.
