How about McKinley Thompson Jr., the first black auto designer at Ford and the Bronco designer who drew the first sketches of the original off-road SUV.
I think Greg is making a droll point here. Most of us actually know very little about the famous African American men and women whose inventions made our lives easier. Most students are familiar with George Washington Carver but how many know that the three color traffic light came from the mind of an African American? Or that we owe refrigeration as we know it and even the light bulb to these great minds? Yes Thomas Edison perfected the light bulb but he could not have done it without the use of the carbon filament invented by an African American. I’ll leave y’all to do your own research to find out who exactly these noteworthy gentlemen were.
And let’s not forget the female African American women inventors either, such as Sarah Boone who invented the ironing board. She was the first black woman ever awarded a US patent.

Oh come on! Surely you can find other black inventers. Too bad there wasn’t Google and Wikipedia in those days.

How about Otis? Did he invent the elevator?
