Fishing is an addiction. And addicts often get hooked when they’re young.

I bet Mr. Henry saw a hatch like that in someone’s boathouse, and knew immediately what would happen if Spud walked through it..

I have to agree with Spud on this one. While “don’t look up” works, “watch out for the trap door” is more accurate. I couldn’t wait to see what was up there too after Wallace said that.

Let’s face it, whatever Wallace would’ve said, Spud was gonna end up in the drink.

I used to live in a drinking town that had a fishing problem … way down on the Texas coast.

When I was a kid i was walking in tall grass barefoot. I stepped on a nail in a board. It went through my foot. I pulled my foot off it and walked home,bleeding all the way. I did not see it.

There’s an undercurrent of some slasher movie in there…or an auto insurance commercial.

No one seems to notice that in panel one the sea level is 5-6’ below the floor of the boathouse, but inside it appears to be just under the floorboards. And the ladder that Spud climbed up inside can’t be seen from the outside in panel one.
