I will always remember the jukebox from the lunchroom at my junior high school. You could be sitting all the way across the room and still hear it well. The sound from a smart phone doesn’t begin to compare.
My girlfriend wanted to hear Tommy Roe’s Dizzy. Over and over and over and over. I wanted to hear The Allman Brothers Whipping Post. Guess what I played.
There is a time for everything. Enjoy the jukebox at home for the better sound, but fewer choices and less mobility. Enjoy the phone on the go for it’s mobility and better assortment of songs.
it’s great that we’ve progressed to the point that our phones and other portable music players can contain and play humungous amounts of music that sounds just like it did on portable transistor radios back in the early 60s…
When I was in college we were at the local “hamburger joint” and playing the heck out of “Rock the Casbah” by The Clash, a band we fervently love to this day. As a little joke I played the B side—Long Time Jerk, a song we didn’t much like. Midway through the song the record skipped and kept repeating the title of the song over and over. We silently sidled outta there. I’ll have to give that song another chance some day.
But – one thing about record players – neither the companies which makes the records or the players tell you that you have to buy a new one as 3G service is being discontinued even though yours is a fairly new 4G which is being discontinued in the 3G discontinuation and the new one, a 5G, is terrible – have been using for about 6 months and still can not figure it out as it is totally different than my 4G one was! Records never had that problem – players continued to play the old formats.

.. and has a terrible sounding built in speaker. Many jukes had a nice rich sound WITHOUT requiring sticking things in ones ears.

There is such a thing as having too many choices.

Let’s fight back…. the jukebox doesn’t need to recharged twice a day, neither to pay roaming, internet and who knows what other things….. next…

Will someone pay way too much money for your phone some day, when the best you can say about it is that it works-ish?

One problem with the old mechanical jukeboxes, you couldn’t repeat a song until your first set of selections was done. Possibly that was a feature.

Now, to see if the jukebox actually works. I guess Adam had all those 45s up in the attic.

Once again Adam is on the wrong track!

Do have an app with bubbling tubes that flickers colors to the music? Not synced with the music. And requiring swiping $.75 for three tunes?

The Jukebox has better speakers.

Each 45 has two sides, Side A and Side B. So it’s only fitting that its successor medium would be CD.

Assuming the jukebox works, the next issue will be the generation gap when all the songs are from Jerry Lee Lewis/Elvis Presley era.

Yeah, but are the speakers on your phone loud enough for the entire bar or restaurant to judge your questionable taste in music?
