There’s an old Spanish joke about a young man who serenaded a senorita every evening. This was noticed by kindly older man on his twilight walks. He finally approached the young man at the end of one serenade and offered to contact her family on his behalf so they could be married.
The young man thought about it for a moment before asking, “But what would I do with my evenings?”.
No doubt she told him that he must dig that hole, and serenade her from below, in keeping with tradition. It’s an intelligence test, and he’s failed it. The guy who will win her heart is the one who points out that there’s no reason he can’t serenade her at ground level. Further, he can make the case that his energies are better applied to romancing her than to digging a hole.

Fun fact I discovered recently: the original R&J doesn’t have a balcony scene, later versions “borrowed” it from a play…that was a parody of R&J

It will look better when you put in the patio with a balustrade.
