If that star is hundreds and hundreds of light-years away (like he said), it will take hundreds and hundreds of years for that star to get the wish (if wishes travel at the speed of light). And it could take another hundreds-and-hundreds-of-years for wish to be granted.
On the other hand, if the first star he sees is Sirius (the brightest star in the night sky), it may take only about about 17.2 years (8.6 years for the wish to get there and another 8.6 years to be granted) since Sirius is about 8.6 light-years away from earth.

The answer to Red’s wish is right beside him looking out the window, too.

Light travels much faster than sound. Red must have been wishing for something in the very distant future.

I wonder what his wish is. It probably involves Rover, though ;)

Don’t go to bed, your wish is right around the corner, or I should say through a wormhole – Rover knows. Yip yip yip yip yip

Why is a wormhole called a wormhole, instead of a tunnel? did they see a worm come out of it? Yip yip yip yip yip

Love the sense of wonderment Rover conveys in last panel. Great job, Brian.

I have often wondered about a dog’s sense of time…

Wonder what Rover’s wish is …… :)

This points to some ambiguity in the rhyme. Do you merely make the wish tonight, or do you want the wish to come true tonight?

Be careful what you wish for.
They may come true.

The star he sees now is from the past not the present.
