I don’t have cable and still watch TV. I get 60 channels over the air. The original sales pitch for cable was you are paying not to have to watch commercials. That was a lie! I see no reason to subscribe to cable.
Is static still a thing? What you get now is usually a “no signal” logo. Maybe do they sold statics videos just for nostalgia? (alongside test-patterns ones)
If it weren’t for Jeopardy and college football, I wouldn’t even own a TV.
Mine is off most of the time. Sometimes I turn it on to watch a real science or history show (NOT Ancient Aliens – although that is fun to watch). Even then I do it while at my computer. I can get a lot done during the commercials.

Any of you watch TV when the cable is out?

Other people won’t complain if you talk while the show’s on.

Use a dryer sheet to get rid of the static.

Best setting on TV is “off”.

No commercials? This must’ve been done before TIVO/DVRs. I don’t even know what a commercial is any more.

As long as my internet is working, I can watch TV just fine. And if that’s out too, I can watch DVDs or listen to music. I’m good.

It’s mostly music for me. Streaming radio on the bluetooth receiver has been loads of fun

And it is still a “vast wasteland” — much more than when Newton Minow was chair of the F.C.C.

It would be an improvement.

when cable goes out it doesn’t leave static, it leaves a blank screen, antenna TV leaves static when it goes out

Roger, take it a step further. Get rid of your TV altogether! We did it about 15 years ago, and things improved immediately.
