When I was a contract worker in biotech, I didn’t want a slowdown, because my contract wouldn’t be renewed. It always slowed down after we submitted our data to the FDA.
In my work, we got overtime pay as non-exempt employees. Many people depended on it to soften the fact we were paid relatively less than surrounding similar businesses. That, and piecework pay. Later, some “smart” managers decided to outsource work to eliminate our overtime, and the piecework, and we had trouble getting motivated workers. Then, the “Lean Maufacturing” craze took over …
For me it wasn’t so much, “If it ever slows down…” as it is "If we can just get through [enter any number of crises, large and small]. And we did. Til the next one. sigh.

Sometimes it seems so anticlimatic when it does slow down.
It also gives you time to think, “What bad thing is going on now that I don’t know is happening and will bite me in the you-know-what next week?”
