There was a mean kid I was afraid of in about third grade and I did my best to avoid him

One day he cornered me and I couldn’t get away

When he hit me I hit him back as hard as I could

Must have been hard enough, he never bothered me again

I never hid from the bullies. One guy challenged me to a fight after school. He didn’t show up. His excuse was he had after school detention. Surprise, surprise.

In high school a bully would always hit me on my upper arm. After getting beaten up for a week, I armored my arm with a coffee can hidden under my sweater. The next day, bully had a surprise waiting for him. He never hit me again.

    “What happened?”

“He beat me up so bad he got expelled! Problem solved!”

I remember reading about a teenaged boy who snapped the back of a young lady’s bra every time he passed her in the school hallway. No help from the principal, of course. One day, she spun around and a slapped him in the face.

Next day, the girl, her mum, and the boy’s parents were all called to the principal’s office. “We need to talk bullying.”

“Oh, good! I’m SO glad you are finally addressing ’Tom’s’ behavior. We’ve complained so many times about him picking on ‘Susan’, and it’s high time it came to a stop.”

Neither the principal nor Tom’s parents were expecting this outcome, but Mum laid it on the line. The parents finally asked Dear Tom if this was all true. “Well, yeah, but . . .”

“But, nothing! I’m terribly sorry. We will handle Tom at home. Expect some improvement in his behavior.”
