Another banana factoid: Here in Hawaii, bananas grown in South America are actually cheaper than bananas grown locally.

I’m just mad about saffron.

Now I can’t get the Banana Boat Song out of my mind. And also the idea that a hairy tarantula might be hiding among the South American bananas!

I had a female cousin who was a Vice President of Hershey Chocolate Company for many years. Yes, she was more successful in business than anyone else in my family. I do remember seeing the big vats of chocolate on display up there. Yummy!

Saffron crocus is an autumn-blooming flower, unlike most crocuses, which bloom in late winter/early spring. Believe it or not.

one year there was a group over my local green space picking the crocuses, sure saffron is a different variety. Hope they got sick, decimated the flowers that year and the pickers haven’t been back.

I’vve read that some disease is attacking bananas, and they might not be available much longer.
