The next sign the neighbor puts up is an arrow pointing to Marmaduke’s yard.

Actually, I think that that sign is about Marmaduke.

My own observation is if you have a dog of which to beware, you do not need the sign.

Marm ……. your a good Dog, so you don’t need a big sign like that …… maybe just a smaller sign that says ……Beware of overly Loving Dog …… :)

Most dogs are very possessive about their territory, as well as protective of their “pack” (family) dog that “acts aggressive” IE barks, growls, at strangers or when someone knocks on the door, is only saying “this is mine and I am guarding it”. Unless trained specifically as an attack / guard dog most dogs are passive towards humans.

In my 60 plus years owning dogs I had only ONE who ever showed human aggression. I had a pitbull that was rescued and rehabilitated from a dog fighting ring, for the 12 years we were together, until her death at approximately age 15, the ONLY human aggression she ever showed was toward a trio of heavy-set Hispanic males, that would frequently show up at the dog parks, suspiciously without dogs of their own.

Since the local dog parks are adjacient to the animal shelters, the men always claimed they were looking for what type of dog they wanted to adopt, and wanted owner opinions before going into the shelter.
