A rough looking guy with a big pit-bull was in a store I frequent. His dog came up to me as I walked in. I didn’t back off. I said “She looks friendly.” The owner gave mean look, “It’s a he….”. I responded, “Oh, I didn’t see the equipment.” The dog owner said “I am thinking of having his tail bobbed, cut his ears and have him fixed.” I thought fast and replied, “Sounds like marriage.”. At that point the tough guy was laughing and said “Just kidding.” The dog was friendly and I got to pet him.
Limits full expression. But, we do what we can, with what we’ve got, where we’re at. Allows laying on the floor much nearer a rocking chair, and not worrying about that evil automatic closing door.
Stop breeding and operating for aesthetics, breed for health and character.
And especially stop „Qualzüchtung“ which is German for the kind of breeding that results in suffering for the animals – prone to hard breathing, blindness, deafness, illness, dermatitis, anatomical defects… Surprisingly there’s no English expression even though kindness and love towards animals is at least as prevalent in Britain and USA as it is in Germany.
I have 3 shelter dogs (mutts, IOW). One has DNA from 5 breeds, another has DNA from at least 6 breeds, and the 3rd has DNA from 16 breeds. They’re fine as they are, but if I had ever been inclined to tinker with their ears or tails, what would I choose to conform them to? As long as they don’t trip over their ears, what’s the problem?

People need to leave their dog’s ears and tails alone. They’re born that way!

AKC endorses animal mutilation for fashion. They claim it’s to preserve breed integrity, which is a sham. Leave the breed as they were born.
