Movie adaptations of old Broadway musicals do it to us every time. 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun, Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, South Pacific, Music Man, Carousel, Oklahoma, and Kismet all take 3 nights minimum to complete.
Well, if there was something a little fresher and more entertaining than the 17th remake of some old classic, maybe I could stay awake… til the end of the opening credits.
I know the feeling …… not that I fall asleep but I get side tracked …… so it takes me at least 3 or 4 times to watch a movie to see the whole thing ……. :)
I have not been able to sit watching a screen for more than thirty minutes at a time in decades. No problem breaking up a movie; I didn’t forget the plot when they were interrupted by commercials. :)
Time spent in that “lazy boy” is not good for your posture or general health. Get up frequently but avoid the kitchen. :)
before streaming services were a big thing, our standard family joke was that we watched all new movies from the middle first ( from flipping through channels ). Later we’d see it from the beginning.
Before Covid we went weekly to the movies for our Saturday night date (after dinner out). When Covid came along we had “Saturday night movie on TV date night” in the kitchen while eating dinner. This expanded to eating dinner first and then watching the movie in the kitchen. Last year for his birthday he bought a small “big” TV and completely changed the look of our “Colonial Revival” living room ( before this, other than at Christmas teddy bears not allowed in there as it was “colonial”).
So we started watching our “Saturday night movie on TV date night” in the living room. I cannot really watch the darn TV – have to wear glare reducing glasses over my eyeglasses as (even though he promised the TVs in stores were set at a high brightness which would cut down when TV set normal for a home) the shows are too bright for my eyes. He also has the volume up so I have to wear my shooting ear plugs while watching.
Then he came up with the idea – when we were first dating we would go to the “Midnight movie” at a local art theater after we worked our retail jobs on Friday nights. So now we also have “Friday night Midnight movie on TV”. He started, of course, with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, “Alice’s Restaurant” for the day after Thanksgiving. He has run through all of the Marx Brothers movies, “The Producers”, and other assorted old favorites and has been picking some odder ones which do not the criteria for the FnMm on TV category.

Depends on the movie.

Hmmm… And I always thought that the movies would finish themselves without depending on anyone to watch them….

Finish more quickly by watching a horror movie.

And pluggers probably watch older movies they have seen before. So that puts them to sleep.

Well, I can tell at least one of these two pluggers is missing something—-a bucket of popcorn.

My wife made us watch “Lord of the Rings” — It took a week.
Then she wanted to watch “Harry Potter” — That took a two weeks…

And when they wake up, comes the groggy attempt to figure out the last scene they remember, so they’ll know tomorrow night’s starting point.

I fall asleep during one movie and wake-up in the middle of another. First thought – didn’t know Clint Eastwood was ever in a John Wayne movie.

The flip side of this coin is scrolling through endless choices on streaming services until you no longer have time to watch a movie!
