And there is something to always (or at least until you retire) remember: “Human Resources” is not your friend! They are part of management, and have only the interests management – especially upper management – at heart.

I say this as someone married to retired upper management with a concentration in HR on Her MBA. If you go to HR and complain about your boss, the first thing they do when you leave your office is relate the conversation to said boss; if you tell them anything about your life outside work, they will find a way to use it against you in re OJIs, etc.

I used to love the anonymous surveys with the coding it the upper corner!!
