I had a cat who would chase down any flies in the house, much to the detriment sometimes of my home, and would kill them and push them onto the floor, where my dog at the time would eat them. I had a great system going for a while. I never had to chase down a fly myself, just had to buy new lamps and things. That cat was up to 20 lbs at one time until I put all 3 cats on scheduled, measured feedings, and he went back to his proper weight of 12 lbs. The other two stayed at 10 lbs and 8 lbs, respectively as they did fine on being able to eat when they wanted to.
