Mom: You have nothing in common with that pair of pants, dear. Cathy: Let's try. These pants might work if I get them hemmed up and tapered a little and if I find the right shoes...they might work if I search the city for a jacket this exact same color...and if I find the perfect blouse and matching belt and if I lose three more pounds.. I can do it, Mom! I know I can make them work! Mom: That does it, Cathy! Why is it you'll spend months trying to get an outfit to work but you'll reject a whole man because of one picky insignificant thing?? Why?? Why will you work so much harder to create a life for clothes than to create a relationship??! Cathy: Because even if these pants never bring me one second of happiness, once I own them, I know they'll be in my closet for the rest of my life!! Saleswoman: Everything ok in here?? Mom: I was hoping for a nice doctor! I'm getting another vicose knit!!
