Our shelves are “Ivar” from Ikea – 1’ 8’’ deep set up in a way that our mistress has her secret passageways lengthwise and upwards behind our stuff.

Yeah, that’s about right. Mine will suddenly claim any area they haven’t tried yet, whether or not it contains something already. Old stuff just gets pushed off or out.
