May 1977, wow, seems like a lifetime ago and FAR FAR away! Back then no videos, Star Wars was held over in theaters for more than a year in some locals. As for mine, we had to drive 40 miles to see it. I saw it 17 times over a year. One of my best friends and his dad made the trip 137 times to watch it. I’ve only seen the first three, and no desire to see any of the others.
At first I looked at the bumpy forehead and wondered why he was wearing a Star Trek Klingon costume. Then it hit me that with the addition of Vulcan ears, he was Yoda. Interesting crossovers… at least in my scrambled brain.
Definitely only watch the original three (otherwise known as 4, 5 & 6) How Star Wars Conquered the Universe is a good summary of everything good and bad. It makes the point that the original trilogy was good because Lucas had a lot of input from other people. When he came to write the prequels, he did it without help and was soon writing some incredibly bad movies, redeemed only by action. Lucas loves action sequences. Of the movies after that, Rogue One is excellent and The Force Awakens is pretty good but they weren’t by Lucas.
Phantom Menace should have been his warning about Attack of the Clones. Bad acting, bad script and, for the most part, not really exciting. An “eh” middle movie.
Jason, prepare yourself for a mind-numbing overlong movie! As someone else said, the Senate scenes are like CSPAN with monsters. And Jar-Jar is still around!

If he had bought twelve tickets, he could have brought Eileen as well.

Back in ’77 when the first one came out I must have seen it a half dozen times in the first couple of weeks.

Separate tickets for each screening? My friends and me watched the original movie twice at our first viewing by simply staying in our seats.

Jason and Marcus sure don’t have many other friends, do they? (Well, sort of excluding Eileen Jacobson and Phoebe Wu.)
