Yeah. I sign up for one online newsletter and get “free” “subscriptions” to a buncha others. I cancel those and get more. I buy one hard-to-find item online and end up with 50 – 100 junk emails every day. I give one company my phone number and then get 10 phone calls every day, some in ch1neze. “Dark forces in charge” indeed.
I dunno. While I’m hardly ever bored and don’t mind that there is no purpose to life, I think Willie Loman’s analysis isn’t far off. The American Dream is still dead. Neither ability nor charm matter. The cacaphony of outrage we’re hearing is a different response to the same basic problem.
