I once read a good mystery novel for the second time, but it was about ten years later, and I had forgotten the ending and most of the plot. I still enjoyed it the second time.
You know you’re a Senior Plugger if you remember the Olden Days when nearly everyone read from books and newspapers which were printed on paper and required you to be able to read one page at a time – then turn the page!
Sometimes it’s 15 or 20 minutes (or more) into a movie before realizing that about a movie on TV or a TV show. (Or course, there’s also the movies/shows that I never saw from the beginning before.)
My wife watches bad horror movies. I’m usually in the room on my computer or phone. I’m not even watching, and I’ll say “You’ve seen this one…” She’s always like “How do YOU know?!” then 5 minutes later, “You’re right…”
I find the same thing happens to me, watching a 2 hour movie and suddenly realize by the last 15 – 20 minutes that I’ve seen the movie …….. Oh well, probably saw some parts that I missed before …. :)
I have been a major fan of Louisa May Alcott; since long before I could read. Have read most of the books in my collection of same many times.
Recently I was reading an article in a needlework magazine about one of her lesser know girl’s books and how needlework was presented in same. Not remembering needlework in that particular book I went and reread the 20th century copy I have of it (as opposed to the late 19th century copy) and never did find the parts she referenced in the article and, as I remembered, there was not much in descriptions of the needlework the girls in the book were doing.

At least the good plugger still reads books and doesn’t totally devolve to the internet and social media.

On the other hand, there are a few books that I have wished I could forget, to experience again the delight of reading them the first time.

Nothing wrong with a reread that is how you pick-up on what you missed the first time through ;-)

I have re-read Stranger in a Strange Land five or six times. Always something new.

Then it was obviously time for a reread.

I’m a Stephen King fan and re-read some of his on purpose. Love his horror stories.

It’s like watching a movie a second time, you pick up on things you missed the first time.

I’m pretty well know what I’ve read – and if I do pick-up one I’ve read before – I wouldn’t take more than 3-5 chapters, at the most.

Failed again! One page and I know if I read it and enjoyed it enough to read it again.

I have a spreadsheet of the 2000 books I’ve read.
The library has an online system that you can use to track the books you have taken out

Same but with audio books, but I don’t really mind having to listen to a good book a few times!

I’ve been reading for almost 70 years so that happens. If it’s a good book I just keep on reading.

I can usually tell after the first 3 pages. Some books, I’ll re-read, just like some movies I’ll re-watch, but most I won’t.

And that’s why I started using GoodReads about 12 years ago…because I kept buying books I’d already bought and read…

Happened to me. I didn’t realize I’d read it before until the fourth to the last page.
