one thing I especially like about self-checkout is that there is one line waiting for the next opening. I always hated the guessing game of which cashier’s line had the person (ahead of me) who would demand a price check or would wait for the last minute to write a check.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to pay one cashier instead of one person to check bags and another to stand there with a gun? Not to mention, it certainly would make me think it was safer to just order it online.
I refuse to use self checkout since it screams at you. I would rather deal with a human being anyway. And I hate it that people lose their jobs so things can be done by machines.
Yesterday, at Walmart, the person and child in front of me in line had the child eating a Lunchables. Wrapper in the cart. When they got to the checkout, the person threw the uneaten portion of the Lunchable in the trash at an unused check out lane, and paid for the rest of the food using WIC funds. I was upset by that behavior. But kept my mouth shut as I needed to take public transportation home, and was afraid I’d see them on the bus.

It’s the last hour before closing when I get to work
If I get paged to self check, it’s code that they need my grumpy old man face
I get to walk the store for a few minutes on the clock and I make sure I’m seen around the beer and wine
If I decide they need me, I can hang out by self check and look grumpy
I would rather be stocking, but we stop a few every week by obvious surveillance

I wish they would bring back more cashiers – I miss the personal interaction.

Five and ten finger discount at the self check is not uncommon. I can understand. Why do the work and not get payment?

I just figured out how the silly thing worked, it’s nuances and what the program is expecting and when, and zip-zip. I’m in and out.

Check bags before letting people out. NO receipt for what they have, it goes back on the shelf. Have a cop there watching with a gun.

For what I am paying for for merch. now I am certainly NOT going to do the stores job for them as well. They will check me out.
