Transcript:
Mom: The invitation says "no gifts." What do you suppose they mean by that? Cathy: Maybe they mean no store-bought gifts, only handmade gifts. Mom: Or do they mean no store-bought, no handmade, only thoughtful gestures? Cathy: But what kind of thoughtful gesture? Cathy: What's thoughtful enough to count as "thoughtful" without being so thoughtful it counts as a "gift"? Mom: Can't we call someone else who's going and ask how gifty or non-gifty her lack of gift is going to be?? Cathy: What if the person we call is wrong? Mom/Cathy: We have to call all the guests and get a group vote...but someone will cheat and arrive with "a little something I just baked" at the last minute!! Dad: Maybe "no gifts" means no gifts. Mom: Men and their utter lack of social graces! Cathy: What's next? "Casual" that means "casual"??
