Boil enough water to cover the eggs. Gently place cold eggs into the boiling water (using a serving spoon), cover with a lid. Boil 10 minutes. Immediately remove eggs into ice water. Replace water with cold water when the ice melts. Wait three-five minutes, replace the water with more cold water. Wait another three-five minutes, then dry eggs, place back in their original container (mark it!), and put them back in the fridge.
This will give you hard boiled eggs that are easy to peel, with yolks that are solid yet creamy. It works best with eggs that are about a week old.
We had to explain to our granddaughters that if you want to turn the lights on in our house, you had to walk to the wall and flip the little lever to the up position.
They were impressed that they could get onto poppy’s guest WiFi network by scanning a QR code.
Might be best to not let them use heat, boiling water or raw foods. At least not until they’ve viewed a few YouTube vids. Those that contain lots of caveats.
Aunty, if you want good hard cooked eggs or soft cooked eggs for that matter, never boil them. Steam them instead. 12-13 minutes for a hard cooked egg and 6-7 for a soft cooked egg. Steamed eggs don’t crack during cooking and are far easier to peel.
Kids really don’t have to learn the basics. They can just play on things that don’t trigger them and let the old servants buy stuff and make food appear, when they’re not watching the weather channel.
For some reason, I kept seeing articles about how many millions and millions of people are so impressed with a video where someone shows how to drop an egg into a frying pan and pick the broken pieces of shell out — this was supposed to be absolute genius. People were raving about how fantastic that was, and it seems a Nobel prize was in order for the discoverer of this amazing technique.
Apparently, none of these dim bulbs thought to google how to crack open an egg.
So the gist is she failed at parenting. That is something she should have taught them when they were young. I am so tired of this generational cr*p. The fact that this has been going on since caveman times is just sad. Everyone laughs at the kids who don’t know how to use a rotary phone. These same jerks would have no clue of how to use my grandmother’s washboard properly, nor how to use the quilting frame that was old when she was born in 1900. Nobody knows how to do things until they learn how to do them. There are somethings that you can intuit, but those are rare. At least Google is filling the job that parents fell down on. My husband was talking about a woman who had no clue how to pump her gas. I told him she was probably from Oregon. Jersey doesn’t allow it as well, but from what he described it seemed west coast. I told him that when I was 22 I had to have the lady in the store help me figure out the pump. Mom never taught me. (The fact she is from Jersey just adds to it since she was an adult before she learned). My husband & I had already been to Germany by this point, but I never got my license there. He always filled up the cars I finally got my license at 22 hence needing to fill the car. When my kids were in their teens I walked them through how to do it so they wouldn’t be in the same predicament as me.

Kids need to learn basic life skills that don’t require an internet connection. All knowledge is worth having.

Excuse me Aunty, but if your kids don’t know how to boil an egg, then doesn’t that mean that you neglected to teach them?

Put a rotary dial phone in front of them and watch their brains fry.

First you need to teach them how to boil water without burning it.

I’ve seen a dozen or more “Egg Boiling Hacks”.
Each of them contradicts at least Half of the rest.
