What kind of underhand pitch is that?? It looks like she severely dislocated her arm. That would make anyone say “oomph”.

Er… I believe high school (and college for that matter) softball games are only seven innings long.

So normally when you say “It’s 3-2 at [sic, ‘in’] the bottom of the 7th” and Milford is pitching, they’d have to win the game 3-2.

Or you could have gone with “And the count is 3-2 with two out in the bottom of the 7th”, which is what I’ll be guessing is meant here.

The game is at Oakwood, home team gets last bats. If it’s 3-2 Milford they still have to close out Oakwood in the bottom of the 7th.

On the Road to New Haven, both teams double their score to end the game, but only when your rookie left-handed pitcher throws the shot put right-handed.

Milford wins! WHOOPEE!

I’ve actually been watching a bunch of college softball lately, which I never did before. It’s really good.

No wonder Dorothy is such an effective pitcher. Somewhere between P1 and P2 Wolfie removes her glove, transfers the ball to her right hand and ‘OOMPHS’ the ball to the plate. And, shouldn’t her pitches ‘WAP’ instead of THWOCK’? Just sayin’.

Umpire is pretty nonchalant for a game ending punch-out (Dennis Eckersley-speak). Frank Drebin would not be impressed.

THWOK! Hope her arm heals by next season.

Not that they are planning a sleepover anytime soon, I bet Dorothy Wolfe and Keri become friends and have a howling good time.

Milford wins, but the fan base is pretty skeptical (as usual). The team went to an “opener” and a bullpen game to start the season?

That doesn’t look like an underhand pitch in panel 2.

She must be using a Nerf ball. There are no seams.

So she was worried about making the team and is the opening game starting pitcher? Not on this planet.

Dorthy’s opener is considered “magnificent” because she only gave up 2 runs in the first 6 innings?

Unfortunately, trying to figure out “Now it’s 3-2 at the bottom of the seventh.” requires engaging in the dangerous and unhealthy mental exercise of “Huh. What is HB thinking ?”As anybody who’s watched even a little bit of baseball knows you recite the pitches as “the count is 3 and 2”. And, it’s “in” not “at” the bottom of the seventh.

OK….3-2 in the bottom of the 7th in a 7 inning game, so how did Milford score three more runs to make it 6-3 in an away game without batting again?!? Sports strip, indeed…

Why is the outfielder punching herself in the gut? Is that some exercise to develop rock hard abs? Or is she just bored? And speaking of bored, you won’t be bored if you read Mopped Up Thorp.
