We had a poodle mix who was about a foot high at the shoulder, but about 2 feet long. She loved raiding trash cans and learned how to operate the pedal trash can upstairs in the bathroom. The kitchen trash can looked just like it. She’d step on the pedal and the lid would fly up. She had to stand on her back legs to get tall enough to get anything out of that can, however. So, she’d open it, and then stand up just to have it bang shut in her face. Every time. I used to let her go 3 or 4 times (it was stinkin’ funny) and then call her off.

You need a cat to knock it off the table for you. You grab it, run behind the couch, and you and the cat share it.
