Elementary school rules: Unlimited outs. Side stays up until every kid has hit the ball. Then the sides change. When every kid on the other team has hit the ball, the game is over. Scoring? Who keeps score? We’re building skills and having fun.
If they had had those rules back in the day, I might actually have been able to see an entire game. The old man was already making his exit (to beat traffic) by the 8th inning ….
We had an annual tournament at our air base. Outfield was up against an active runway. Fire hall dominated, followed by hanger teams and always last was HQ staff
It still has some redeeming value, there’s still humans playing the game, although they are experimenting with using computers to replace umpires in the minor leagues.
When I was 9, maybe 10, I played Little League. One Saturday, the kid that batted before me got walked. He was about halfway to first base and I stepped into the batter’s box. BOOM>>>>suddenly, I was the little @$$hole. I had never heard of the rule that, if I did that before the walked player reached first, HE WAS OUT! The way I see it, it was the coaches place to make sure that I knew that. Afterall, HE WAS THE COACH! How else would anyone ever know that? As a small child I learned to despise an old man. It wasn’t like the world ended. The kid was out. Whoop-de-doo.

Here’s an idea: eliminate TV executives that prefer soccer and dislike baseball.

You want to make baseball fun? Make adults stay out of it, kids have more fun when THEY make the rules.

And, as for the song, why in hell does anyone sing, “Take me out to the ballgame” when they are already AT the ballgame???
