Feet have a very hard life. They’re only cute on babies. ♥♥♥

In this day and age there really should be more options available in shoes than length and width. What about toe width and length, arch height, or heel width? You’d think with modern technology we could create something that falls between ‘mass produced’ and ‘completely bespoke’.

I was recently reading about the impact of evolution on the variability of human body parts. The author pointed to the great variability of human noses as evidence that there hasn’t been much reason for natural selection to select one type of nose over another. I was surprised that he claimed that human hands also show great variability; I would have expected hands to be heavily selected for. But the author claimed that human feet show relatively little variability because they are so critical to human life, at least since we left the trees.

I think our feet become less and less perfect as we wear the wrong kind of shoes.

There’s quite a variety of shoes, just not in my size.

Our feet started out as something to walk on, then our distant ancestors turned them into something to climb trees with, and now they’ve evolved back into something to walk on. No wonder our feet are confused and not really suited for the task.

Hits a little close to home. My wife just had to have a Norton’s neuroma removed.
