I once got a contract to clean all the dust out of all the computers in all the labs in my school district. I hired my son and his best friend to disconnect the computers and carry them out to me so I could blow them out in the hall, then reconnect them. But they goofed off so much, that they slowed me down, so I fired them and hired my jobless brother-in-law instead. When the job was done, I paid my bil $1500 ($$2,892.84 in today’s money). My son said incredulously, “You mean that’s how much I could have earned?” I replied, “Yes, but you didn’t want to work.”
Adam is not asking Clayton to do his work. He is offering him a job, which Clayton does not seem to want.
3 story house…8 hours of work removing storm windows one at a time up and down a ladder and replacing them with screens. Each storm window 36" tall by 24" wide glass in a wooden frame. Screens the same size with mesh of metal in the wood frame. I’m 14 years old and this labor resulted in my sweat equity earning me the 3 speed Pashley roadster with Sturmy-Archer gearing and lever hand brakes sitting unused in the widowed woman’s garage. Now, I wish I still had that bike. It got me through high school and around my university campus faithful and true until an encounter with a pothole tacoed the front wheel and fork beyond repair in my junior year.
I made a deal with my dad to get my first stereo (GE Trimline 500) but he wouldn’t let me do his medical lab exams for him (can’t imagine why not) so I had to mow lawns and carry newspapers.

He would love for someone else to do his work so he could catch up on his napping, and eating junk food,

Why not?? I’m sure Clayton can do a FAR better job on that newsletter than his old man!!
And the accounting firm would probably give the boy full credit, too!

Most dads would settle for mowing the lawn.

For what it’s worth, after all these years, I still can’t figure out how to make money other than do the job I’m hired to do.

How about washing laundry, vacuuming the house and taking care of the baby?

I can understand, it doesn’t pay enough.
