The original Socratic dialog is Plato putting his own philosophy into the mouth of Socrates so Plato’s writings would “sell” better to the people of Athens. (Plato had never studied with Socrates.) Xenophon had actually studied with Socrates, and has a couple writings that show Socrates using a technique of asking questions… But Xenophon’s Socrates doesn’t spout Platonic philosophy. The only writer who mentions Socrates while he was alive, Aristophanes, presents Socrates as the village idiot (but it is a comedy, so you allow for a little exaggeration).

Is there such a thing as Socratic monologue?

A lot of people just want their lies repeated back to them (cough Trumpettes cough).

“Socratic dialogue”? Isn’t that what the editor is for?. I wonder if there are any editors at any of the media outlets anymore?

Symbolic truth is more fun. There’s a certain amount of inference involved in parsing it out though, more than a lot of people are capable of.

I argue with myself all the time. In fact, I say I discourse internally constantly.
