I figured out that Cathy is 48 years old. My reasons for this are posted at yesterday’s strip. I don’t want Cathy to get happy. It’s her angst that I can relate to.

Cathy is a fictional character. She has no “age.”

Cathy carries the truly banal to a new level.

summerdog, Cathy Guisewite is actually 58 if she was born in 1950. The issue of Cathy’s (comic character) age is confusing because they had her going to her 10th HS reunion in 1981 (in “Another Saturday Night of Wild and Reckless Abandon”), which would make her 55 years old now. Obviously the comic book characters do not age the same way that we do! I really loved the comic strips from the 1980s - in recent years the quality has deteriorated. Even the drawing - I hate how Guisewite draws that little line with the leaves coming out at the end, like in lieu of actually having to draw a background or something like that.

You’re right, woobiewecka. I edited it to fix the math on yesterday’s. Cathy could be older than Irving, but I think the strip doesn’t care about the age stuff, too. I hope Guisewite doesn’t plan to retire soon. I need my Cathy fix.

Some strips “age” at a regular basis (Gasoline Alley, for one); others remain almost “ageless” (Blondie, as example) :)
