Another good gag marred but lazy cut-n-paste, minimalist cartooning!
Re: Alibi Andy … His image has been cleaned up considerably, over the years. Not only has he become more PC – non-smoking, non-combative with Flo – but he’s no longer the delightful cadger, con artist, cheat, schemer, and occasional thief that Smythe originally portrayed him as. Now he’s just a pesky old drunk.
As I mentioned to Ƹʅɗʘ & rjm over at Creators, this comic is missing a certain believability factor. For one, Andy would sooner avoid the Vicar than seek advice. And I can’t imagine what alibi the Vicar could or would supply that would help.

I see that Capp isn’t drunk or mussed up from fighting.
So—what does he need an alibi for THIS time??

Thwaites??? the vicar has a lisp? o_O [and I’m surprised who would believe any alibi given by Andy]

Maybe he should stop giving Andy alibis.

Thwart a minute… The Vicar’s guidance isn’t needed. Andy Capp already knows the way to the Rose and Crown. Well. Very well.

Hope springs eternal. But alibis for Andy, not really.

I remember a classic where the Vicar thanked Andy for singing in the choir the previous night. Andy muses to himself, “So that’s where I was!”

Tell him he needs an appointment.

Given how he chastises Andy for drinking and gambling, I would think that the Vicar is the last person Andy would come to for an alibi.

Yeah Vicar, I had a job interview I missed, I told the mrs. You were giving me guidance…
