Actually you CAN gain weight just by looking at or smelling food. It triggers the liver to release stored sugars (glycogen), which if it doesn’t get burned off get loaded into fat cells. Then the next time you eat, the liver will restore its glycogen levels.
It’s not that they have a narrow view of life, Cathy; it’s just that they’re not so into denial and rationlization that those things CLOUD their view of life.
And let’s not forget that some thin people are just as persecuted as the fat ones frequently are (how many times have we all screamed at a naturally thin actress to eat a sandwich or two, or simply assumed that she has an eating disorder precisely because she tips the scale too far in the OTHER direction for our comfort?)
