LOL… its always amusing as to what pushes our buttons (financially) yet most of us scoff at someone elses neurosis while justifying our own. Cathy, if you’re saving (I know I said “if”), then once in a while buy the shoes you love.
I wear one pair of tennis shoes with my jeans in the winter and one pair of white sandals with shorts in the summer (that’s not all I own, of course, but since I’m a stay-at-home mom, I don’t really need anything else so I guess I can’t fault Cathy too much — so long as she isn’t spending an obscene amount of money on a pair of shoes she truly can’t afford and is never going to wear or will only wear once … that is, if she can convince Irving she wants to go out to dinner just so she can show them off!).

As long as she’s still got checks, she’s got money in her account. (Even as a young kid, when I heard Wilma Flintstone say this, I rolled my eyes).
