    Top-o-the morning to yah Vagabonds

It was 52 again this morning when I got up, it appears to be little lighter and there are a few holes in the clouds. The forecast is encouraging, cloudy in the am and clearing in the pm, high of 69.Today is the newest American holiday, Juneteenth, celebrated on the anniversary of the order by Major General Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865 (two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued).

There was a fellow from Brownington, VT, Alexander Twilight. He was recognized as the first African American to have earned a bachelor’s degree from an American college or university, graduating from Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT, in 1823. He was ordained as a Congregational minister and worked in education and ministry all his career. In 1829 Twilight became principal of the Orleans County Grammar School. There he designed and built Athenian Hall, (now known as the Old Stone House) the first granite public building in the state of Vermont. In 1836 he was the first African American elected as a state legislator, serving in the Vermont House of Representatives; he was also the only African American ever elected to a state legislature before the Civil War.

    All this is from Wikipedia.

Vermont was a free state from the beginning but, I am sure people would look the other way if someone came to VT with a slave. People are the product of their times.

Gabbed enough, time to go. A pleasant day for you Vagabonds and may God bless.

    ttfn

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Yesterday turned out to be a great day. We went to see “The Flash” and really enjoyed it. I especially liked the way they brought in cameos of different actors who had played Batman or Superman in the past (including some who have passed away). Creatively done. Then we went out to a Texas BBQ place and overate. A very good time was had by all.

Laundry today and not much else. I plan to take it easy since my left hip has decided to join the right one in limiting my mobility. It’s not easy to limp on both feet. The anti-inflammatory that the doctor prescribed should be here today or tomorrow and that will take care of both.

We did make it up to 100 yesterday on the patio (which is probably 2-3 degrees above anywhere else due to where we keep the thermometer). Today is “only” supposed to be 95. It’s already 80 and windy so we’ll see.

    Everyone have a blessed day.
