Ahhh, The Wish Book. Hours and hours of turning down pages, circling items, wishing hard, harder, hardest, that Santa would bring you that coveted toy….. It really was a place to dream big :-))
Best time of the year! The Sears Wish Book! I pored over this book, circling items, dog-earing pages, writing page numbers on the cover (putting stars besides the most important pages)!
You said it! I hope those precious catalogs are housed in the Library of Congress! Rest in Peace Mr. Boudreaux, you gave my kids hours of fun and creativity.
I especially enjoyed the years the Sears catalog had Peanuts cartoons distributed throughout. Sitting on my grandfather’s lap as we paged through, even enjoying the non-toy sections due to the search for the next cartoon.
In the bygone era before Walmart and Amazon, Sears was the one stop place for just about all our non-food needs and it was especially true in the Christmas season which many would say began with the arrival of that Wish Book.

Ah, the old “we can’t afford all that, sweetie” book! “Pick one thing, and we’ll see what Santa can do for you!”

Those were some great toys. Worth big bucks today. More importantly, they were FUN!

I got my nephew a radio controlled R2 D2, he loved it, unfortunately it was lost when my sister’s trailer burned.

Montgomery (aka “Monkey”) Ward did the same for an earlier generation.
