That’s a good gag if you remember that old movie, and I don’t remember reading it in 2001 so I’m glad to encounter this rerun.I meet kids whose parents weren’t born when that movie came out, who are familiar with it. The subject comes out because I have replaced the system sounds in my computers with appropriate lines by HAL 9000.

Her problem is less “lack of space” than it is “excess of stuff”. I probably have too much stuff but I have enough space to store it. I’ll never understand the people who have so much stuff in their garage that they can’t park cars in it. Hello to all the Cathy nuts out there!!

Well, Billy’s timing on organization (from yesterday) sure fits in. We’re not stuff collectors, and we certainly don’t play the organization game 1/4 as well as Cathy. That was too funny. It surprised me when the Christmas stuff ended back in the living room. Why? I dunno, blame my eye-roll going on. :-P

Morning fellow Cathyites. Just now home; had breakfast with my fire company crew. Now off to sleep a while.

    Simplify your life, Cathy.

No wait! Then there would be no fuel for the strip!

This strip is new to me because our newspaper discontinued Cathy right after the dogs showed up. The timing is really creepy in that my decorations are slowly filling up my living room as they are being taken down. I am familiar with the movie she refers to. I first saw 2001: A Space Odyssey in a movie theater about 8 years after its release in 1968. If you haven’t seen it yet, buy or borrow it, especially if you like science fiction and special effects. Sometimes TLC channel will air it as well. It’s amazing to look back and see what did actually happen since the movie was made.

I notice the Sunday strip has a date of Jan. 7, where today’s date is Jan. 8-meaning 2012’s dates don’t fall on the same day of the week as they did in 2001.

A good year for GoComics to get strips from would be 1984; it’ll also have the leap year day( Feb. 29)

The good news is she probably burned a few calories running all around the house like that. Another few rounds and she woulda been completely nuts, but thinner.

Aaron and I both have the same affectation in the collection of ‘stuff’. Sweaters. Love sweaters. Definitely the New Englander in both of us. Both sets of our parents kept the house at 65-ish, so sweaters were required. As much as I hate those space bag lame commercials on TV, they were our solution to two closet shelves worth of sweaters.

Ah, speaking of garages not holding cars….When my soninlaw moved in ten years aga, my daughter and I already had a house full of kids and stuff, so his stuff started out in the garage, and gradually moved into the living room which caused an overload on the wiring resulting in a house fire. Meanwhile only one grown grandkid moved out and my daughter had a baby. and we played musical bedrooms so the baby would have the smallest bedroom, but instead of the baby getting a room, my soninlaw was moved into the small bedroom with instructions to convert the garage into a room for himself so the baby could have the small bedroom. Now eight years later, the child is still sleeping with her mother, neither my daughter nor soninlaw will admit there are problems in the marraige although they obviously can’t stand each other, and only when I throw a Calvinesque tantrum does any work get done in the garage. I envy Cathy her simple life.

There are many days I feel like Cathy — it’s not just the “stuff” that is the problem — it’s the fact that as fast as you clean up one mess, another rears its ugly head. It’s the constant call of messes that makes me want to go find some folk music to listen to (and that’s just what I do:) Hi to all the Cathy Gang!!
