Oh, this will push her over the edge! LOL!!!!Just keep moving, Cathy, and pretend it never happened. If it was meant for you (and it wasn’t), he’ll say it again. And if he can’t say it to your face, then be cautious.Good morning, Aaron and Susan! Hope you’re getting enough rest, "Aaron*.Hello to GsMom, Billy, KFG, gmforde, rgcviper, lindz.coop, hendelca, Mona, serenasakitty, kittycatpawsare and all the other Cathy nuts rolling around here today! Love this group!! <3@ lindz.coop and kittycatpaws – You’re so sweet! I read everyone’s notes to lightenup jr. this morning and she was beaming from ear to ear. :-)@ KFG – Wow, sounds faaaaancy!!! Enjoy it! I hope you jumped on the bed at least once. ;-) Can’t wait to hear what else you’re doing…

Last panel doesn’t sound like something you would say to the dog. And it would be very like Irving to say it this way – not directly, sort of off-handedly.

As one of the few guys here, I’m pretty sure the I love you was for Cathy. People (not often me though because LMB hates it) talk to their pets in baby talk. My I love you comes without hesitation, full of beautiful eyes, and a shy smile. Irving might learn how to do that some day.

I really should learn to come home from work and actually get into bed at a reasonable hour, but then I’d be working and sleeping only. I love coming here after getting a stew or casserole going for dinner, letting Billy actually do more than work and cook only. Love seeing new (and friendly) people coming to join the family. Nice. :-)

Thought for the day, from Mother Teresa:If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

The rest of my comics are read, dinner prep is in good shape, LMB is sitting on the stairs (subtle, LMB, real subtle), and I’m ready to rest, despite ‘no rest for the wicked’.

Morning Susan and lightenup LOL Billy was on last night huh? Sometimes he can also be punny, better than me. Morning Mona hope all is well :-) KFG I agree with lightenup about jumping on the bed in a nice hotel — been there done that.

Good morning everyone. I think he was talking to the dog.

look at it this way… if you dont feel the same way, and he was talking to you, you can use the dog bit as an excuse not to reciprocate…

I think he was actually talking to Cathy. At least he was looking at her, both times when he said it.

If she were just a little farther away or anything was turned on that makes noise, she could ask whether he said anything.

I’m agreeing with Aaron and others who say Irving is saying I love you to Cathy. Too bad he’s more comfortable saying it to her back, but it’s a giant leap for him. If I were Cathy, I’d turn around and say nothing for a moment. Irving’s eyes would tell all.

Aaron’s comments about me sometimes make me blush, but they’re always right. I can also picture him suddenly becoming a two or three-year-old and jumping on a bed in a nice hotel. He worked for GE for a long time before becoming a firefighter and paramedic. He did travel a lot. I bet he jumped on every bed in every hotel room. :-D So KFG, lightenup and Aaron are right — have at it. :-)

Hello fellow Cathy evening crew, and returning morning crew if any.

Irving is talking to the dog. This is Irving, people!

Someone call Guisewite and ask her.

Yeah this is Irving we’re talking about but at some point he had to say those magic beloved words. He’s got 2 years in Cathy comics time, give or take, to get his act together. I’m also a romantic, so I believe. I think even Vivian understands him.

There’s no way that Irving is saying “I love you” to Cathy after many strips about how much he loves Vivian. Sure, Billy and Aaron and others (including my husband) have no problem saying “I love you”, but this is Cathy and Irving!! Didn’t he want to go to a basketball game recently after he gave her roses & chocolate? He’s not quite at the point where he’s ready to pour his heart out to her. Good try, you romantics, but he’s definitely loving all over the dog.

Personally, I think the ellipsis in Irving’s speech bubble signals a change in who he’s talking to. I’d say the “thanks” is to Cathy, while the “I love you” is to Vivian.

It’s an abrupt change, for sure, but I think the “I love you” is “for the dog”. In a few years, however …

    Hello, “Cathy” nuts!

Okay, Billy, we’ll see what happens tomorrow (Lord help me when I’m eager for tomorrow’s Cathy. Bravo on today’s strip, Ms. Guisewite!)… Although I think that you’re imposing what you and Aaron would say onto Irving, when, other than gender, you two are totally different than Irving.Plus look at Vivian’s puppy smile and excitement. Irving has definitely said this to her before. I’ve had pets where I’ve told them I’ve loved them many times, especially when I’m so happy with them. We’ll just have to have different opinions today, which is fine because I love how much excitement this one has generated! Usually we all agree that they’re nuts! LOL

Hi Cathyites!! Maybe she could change her name to Vivian.

I’m with you lightenup & mom — “He’s not quite at the point where he’s ready to pour his heart out to her” — lol — does he ever get there?!?
